Levadas
The “levadas” are irrigation canals, which allowed the ancient inhabitants to bring water to their plantations that were located at great distances and in difficult to access places. Nowadays there are more than 30 recommended walking routes (equivalent to around 3000km) where it is possible to be in contact with beautiful green landscapes, natural tunnels that cross the rock or lagoons with crystal clear waters. In addition to the “levadas”, there are the “veredas”, which are recommended walking paths but without water channels.
There are routes for all tastes and all paces. Thus, anyone, of any age, can have the experience of exploring the paths and levadas. Taking a walk like this is having direct contact with Nature and the Laurissilva Forest (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Each step reveals an ever-changing landscape, where the exuberant biodiversity of the Laurissilva forest appears in all its glory, making it possible to witness a unique variety of flora and fauna, many of which are endemic.
It is possible to do beginner, intermediate and advanced level routes, always with transfers and a private guide included. We suggest deciding the route close to the date, due to weather conditions, being possible to do:
- Half-day routes (4H)
- Full day routes (8H)
- Circular routes: starting and ending in the same place. Driver/mountain guide required
- Point-to-point routes: starting and ending in different locations. Driver + mountain guide required
We always suggest bringing warm and comfortable clothing.
Lunch options
For FD routes we have the possibility for two types of lunch:
1 - "Surprise lunch" (a typical Madeiran lunch in nature, barbecue style, with food prepared over the fire):
- Typical meat dish “espetada” with homemade bread and salad. / Fish dish
- Wines, waters, juices
- Regional fruit.
Surprise lunch min 2 PAX = €350
From the 3rd PAX = €45 per PAX
2 - Option Lunch Box*:
- Lunch box 1: Natural fruit juice + hummus sandwich, cherry tomato, avocado, microgreens and balsamic vinegar + chia yogurt with fresh fruit and granola
- Lunch box 2: Natural fruit juice + Bowl with fresh vegetables, mushrooms, avocado and microgreens + chia yogurt with fresh fruit and granola

*For the picnic option, customers must bring a backpack to store and carry their materials.
