Poncha Workshop
Discover the story, the craft, and the flavor of Poncha — Madeira’s most iconic drink — in this hands-on and engaging workshop.
Believed to have been inspired by an Indian drink called panch and brought to the island by 18th-century sailors, Poncha has since become deeply rooted in Madeiran culture. Originally consumed by fishermen to "ward off colds", this citrusy, rum-based cocktail is now a symbol of conviviality across the island.
The experience begins with a brief introduction to the history of Poncha and Madeira Rum, including the role of sugarcane production in the island’s economy and the evolution of this traditional spirit.
