Wine Tasting at Museum
Located in a 16th century palace, the former Paço Episcopal, founded in 1594, the Funchal Sacred Art Museum is one of the oldest museum spaces in the capital of Madeira.
The facilities that once served as the residence of the bishops of Funchal, now house an eclectic art collection, with works dating from the period between the 15th and 19th centuries. From painting to
sculpture, including goldsmithing and vestments (mostly embroidered in gold), the collection of the Funchal Sacred Art Museum is characterized by its diversity and historical importance.
The experience begins with a brief guided tour by a qualified historian, with just two stops to admire and explain two of the most important pieces in the Museum: regarding goldsmithing, the processional cross of Água de Pena, from the 15th century . And when it comes to painting, the triptych of Santiago Menor and Saint Philip, from the 16th century.
Arriving at the tower, you will find an 18th century tile panel, allegorically representing the “Faith, Hope and Charity” trilogy with a privileged view of the city of Funchal. Here there will be a private tasting of Madeira wine, paired with local snacks.
